THE AUTHOR
The author's hunting experience spans more that a half-century. Raised in California, black tail bucks were an early teen-age attraction.
Following Naval duty in WWII, then graduate school, his hunting interests soon expanded to trophy class mule bucks and bull elk.
Together with his twin brother, he has hunted the Rocky Mountains (mostly in Colorado) annually since the late 1950s.
Though book-maker mulies were the initial big game interest, the brothers have been dedicated elk hunters for the past three decades. Correcting mistakes made in the early years, both the author and his brother have tagged bulls for 28 consecutive seasons.
An avid Elk Zone hunter at age 76, the author has paused long enough to record the brother's answer to the most frequent question other hunters ask:
"How come you guys always get your bulls? I hunt hard but seldom see anything but old sign and other hunters?"
The strategies and techniques these two hunters use, honed by more than 50 years of combined Elk Zone hunting experience, is what "Elk Zone Secrets" is about.
